Jake's XJunk
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:55:30 PM »

hi I'm 19 and I love XJ's. this is my 3rd one, first build. I've never wheeled a lifted rig before
so this is my crack at building a Jeep. it's a father and son project

Location: Roseville CA
Unmolested Specs: 1993 4.0 Awful4 np231 8.25 118k original.
Price: $1000

cluster swap

tossed out some stuff

painted up some old wrangler wheels

did some more maintenance. regged. smogged. tore out headliner. replaced some broken junk
currently sits

well that was boring. so I felt like doing a cut and fold

and deleting the rear sway bar

thought of a day project and started cutting into the hood

then we started overheating. parts needed

started replacing some parts and got a little carried away...

turns out it was the heater core though

then I decided I might as well do some cleaning. and painting

my buddy sold me his 8.8 for $300

*factory limited slip rebuilt by west coast diff

and the posi just wasnt gonna do it for me. I picked up a 4.56 D30 ring and pinion and an 8.8 detroit for $280
turns out the gears were for a low pinion D30. ask me how I found out  :flipoff: sold them for $75

got a couple goodies for the D30 as well

my friend who sold me the 8.8 also did all my axle work

D30:
4.56 sierra gears

Good looking xj, always wanted a 2 door xj on wide track axles. They look pretty good when built up. Keep it going.

Did you setup the gears on your own? What were they before?

he's taken automotive classes, mechanic classes, I believe he was a certified mechanic for awhile, now he's a full time fabricator. I think he said this was the 25th D30 he has regeared. dude's 22. If you learn how that's awesome it's a great way to make side cash.
