I've been testing some new gear trying to lighten my pack base weight. Sold my 2 lb Fly Creek UL-1 tent, too confining. Z-pack Duplex is the preferred tent at about 1 lb but $600 is a bit much. Wow, that looks like an awesome trip. 

Have you given any thought to getting a spot gps locator?  They're pretty inexpensive and you can set predetermined messages to send out or the obvious SOS with your coordinates.

Mark has one but I didn't borrow it. Just think of the weight savings. 
Actually, lots of people I passed on the trail had them and I asked for weather updates. That is why I pushed hard to get over the final pass before the snow came in. Yes, awesome. Sorry I didn't have a better camera with me or at least had mine set on landscape mode instead of macro or whatever.

Yes awesome. I'm already planning next years leg of the JMT (John Muir Trail). It looks like I will be coming in over Bishop Pass again but this time heading north on the PCT/JMT to Florence Lake or maybe Lake Thomas A Edison for a 50 or 60 mile section. A re-supply here then on to Devils Postpile would be logistically easier. The additional 30 trail miles will be a push and the plan was to do this in two hikes. My last section from Postpile to Yosemite will complete the 211 mile total minus 5 mile Glen Pass and Whitney. Damn weather

Well, assuming my knee heals properly, I still am wanting to do my little section from Edison to Goodale/Silver pass's and back to Edison. I can pick you up @ Florence and bring restock supplies and we'll head on over to 'my' neck 'o the woods. 

(of course... that means lots of work in the off season) Lol.

Yup, I've been up in Oregon off and on for the last 3 weeks and they got some big fires up there also. One started up right in front of us coming down I-5 in Medford on the side of the freeway! Crazy! We drove right past it before the fire trucks were even there and before they closed the freeway! Burned at least a couple miles or so. Some authorities suspect Antifa starting them. Good news is they've been getting some rain up there and things are calming down. Obviously we need some rain down here big time! This fire down here is literally burning up the entire Sierra national forest. I'm not sure, but I believe every trail down here is burned up save for maybe the Dusy! And the fire is STILL burning!

Pretty sickening to watch. I 'think' they got some rain up there a week or so ago. I was again up in Oregon all week. But when I got home the air was pretty clear and I couldn't see any smoke over the mtn's from home. Hoping the rain put it out. Wondering if the pack station and/or resort store got hit? Hope not. That would purdy much be all my childhood memories burned up! 
Took a drive up that way before I left, and even tho many homes were lost in the lower elevations, looks like they saved all of the town of Shaver. The fire went across Tamarack ridge/pass and likely burned much of my fav. camping spots. But looked like it missed Huntington lake, but obviously went north and around and on up to Edison. 
Most of the roads are closed for fire crews and logging crews. Prolly won't know the full extent until next spring/summer.

78% doesn't sound that good after watching that video.    I'm not good with dates anymore... one day leads to the next... but I 'think' the rains came after the date of the video. Still, the fire being waaaaay up there is very disheartening. That very same ridge is where I used to deer hunt many moons ago. I've been up and down that thing literally dozens and dozens of time. Fished Arrowhead lake, that was mentioned in the video and the fire was almost to it. Who knows how much further the fire went?. Not that far as the crow flies to JMT. Good luck planning the hike again. I wouldn't be surprised if they (gub'ment) keeps the whole thing closed after all this. 
If that happens, then just one more reason to get the hell out of this screwed up state!!!
