Dana 44 Detroit Locker 19 Spline
« on: April 18, 2019, 08:37:29 PM »

A friend had his NEARLY NEW Detroit soft-locker misdiagnosed and replaced. It is perfect and clean with very low miles. It is for 19 spline axle shafts and he was running 4.88 r&p. I think the breakpoint is 3.92 and up. He will be listing it on eBay and Craigslist soon so let me know if you are interested. We haven't discussed price but expect a bargain not a steal. They soaked him for more than the Summit Racing price. 176 SL12A 70979 are etched as the ID #s. I will add photos with Tapatalk if I can.

He needs to find a better shop.  Assuming this is NJ, seems he's always getting hosed.

I am not going to say who. I am sure he feels pretty bad about it. It is tough when you are at the mercy of a shop. That same shop told him his motor mounts were good when they were totally sheared. That false diagnose cost him a very expensive radiator. He should never have gone back to them. (except in court) Even 4WP had difficulties with his Jeep.  :pissed:

I find 4WP to be less than knowledgeable as well.

Most of the time when you deal with 4WP, you're dealing with someone who is trained to sell parts. When I broke my spring last year, 4WP didn't have a clue. But I had sent an email to them, and some guy upstream had it forwarded to him. It worked out that I got the 11 year old Pro-comp springs warranted. All the shop guys wanted to do was sell me new springs.

Not sure when Jeep went from 10 spline to 19 spline. I'm thinking '64 and up to '70 when they went to 30 spline. Maybe an early hot rod, Bronco or Scout would be a more common application. Expensive paperweight.

Maybe this will help
Thanks. That link mentions 27 spline rear? D25 / D27 fronts came in early CJ's. (I think 10 spline) Early CJ's came with 10 spline Rears with two piece before going to 19 spline two piece. The 30 spline offset flanged axles are extremely rare. 70.5-71 Sean had a 72 with offset D44 30 spline. My spare
D44 19 spline might have been used on passenger cars, Dana might have an application chart.
