Ball joint

Replacing ball joints for my first time.  Does the bottom ball joint shaft supposed to move back and forth? New one does not see too... see pic

Thank Tim. Being a joint I figured it would  move some.  This one easily wobbles back and forth.  New oneís should be in tomorrow.

Any guesses as to why my steering knuckle bolts on one side look like this ?

Bad uni-bearing at some point or blown u-joint? In a previous pic it doesn't look like the axle is in all the way.

I didnít even notice when I pulled the bolts. When I was looking at knuckle I notice where the bolts seat looked  funky. . The bolts were not very tight either.

Speaking unit bearings Öthe donít  feel very smooth on this  side...

Now that I am pricing unit bearingsÖ :-) Brands like Timken and moogs are twice as much versus Detroit etc..   

Worth the extra money for something like Timken?

I believe Timkens are built better and worth the extra money.
