Any 258 Guru's? CARB complete ignition upgrade

Looking for some advice, mainly.

How can I get some more RPM and Power by doing ignition tuning or upgrades. I've researched online but couldn't nail down anything definitive that would be CARB compliant.
Is there anybody on here that has experience in this?

Put a HEI distributor in it from CRT.  That's the best upgrade for that.  No CARB compliance issues there.

So can I get rid of the Duraspark ICM?

How does this interact with the Howell module?

Yep that's the one.  Yes the duraspark can go, seamless with the Howell.

For replacement parts, cap and rotor just get stuff for a mid 70's to 80's Chevy van with a I6 and plug wires get for a 1980 Ford Fairmount with the I6.  Those plug wires are stock 8mm.
