Stuck striped brake line
« on: April 08, 2012, 12:20:30 PM »

Pictures later, but the brake line that goes from the caliper hose down the frame to the distributor bracket is striped on both ends, I have the one of the caliper hose off but I need to get the other end off. I've used PB and let it soak for an hour. You cant get a wrench of it anymore, only locking grips or something. I'm about to use a torch on it, hope PB isnt flammable. Any other ideas so I dont have to cut the line in half, flare it, do a double female connection, and then connect the caliper hose to the hard line?

Brake fluid is extremely flammable. Use channel locks or vice grips.

Were you using a brake line wrench?

Anyhow, I think your solution is going to be to use vice grips and get it out of there, whether you have to cut the lines in half or not I don't know, but you'll need to replace it once it's out either way.

Got it, heated it with a torch and then got it with vice grips.

The nut was striped from the vice grips after the wrench failed.
